I bought a chromebook a couple of months ago and have become a convert to cloud computing. After a lifetime of the desktop, laptop / local OS model of computing and am going back to where I started as a systems librarian.
My first job as a professional librarian was at the Prince Rupert Public library. A large part of that job involved making sure dumb terminals could connect to a central server. In some ways it was a primitive form of cloud computing.
A simple Google search can provide you with the pros and cons. What convinced me to try ChromeOS was a simple frustration with the constant upgrade cycle of Windows computers. I like things to be on or off, not waiting. I found I was spending and increasing amount of time waiting on my computer instead of working. I paid for that computer, it it too much to expect that it will be available to work as soon as I turn it on?
I will post my impression of the following posts. Stay tuned for my next installment. Word Processing.
